Linden Tree Counseling, PLLC
Contact & Scheduling
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by clicking the client portal button in the header, calling the office, or emailing me. I may be in session with another client or away from the office so I may not be able to respond immediately, but I will respond as soon as possible (typically within two business days) to discuss availability.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes, I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation so we can discuss your needs and determine whether we're a good fit.
What should I do if I am experiencing a mental health emergency?
If you are experiencing a crisis, having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or need immediate assistance, call 911, contact your local emergency services, or go to the nearest emergency room. Therapy websites are not monitored continuously and should not be used for emergency communication.
Getting Started
Do you require both parents to consent and participate in services?
Yes, I do require that all legal guardians (regardless of marital status) sign my consent paperwork prior to child beginning therapy. If there is any court paperwork pertaining to a child (such as a divorce decree or custodianship agreement) then I will also need a copy of that in full prior to starting treatment, per Texas law. Your level of participation depends on several factors, but for children, I encourage parents to be involved. You are with your child much more than anyone else and can provie valuable insight and support in the therapeutic process.
What can I expect during the first session?
The first session is different depending on if it is a child, adolescent, or adult. Parents are often the only ones at the first session for younger children while they only attend part of the first session for teens and then just me and the client meet for the remainder of our time. Regardless of who is present, the first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, history, current challenges, and what you'd like to achieve. You'll also have a chance to ask questions and determine whether we're a good fit.
How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy varies based on your goals, concerns, and preferences. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term support for deeper personal growth and ongoing challenges.
How often will we meet?
For therapy to help create change, I have found that starting with weekly appointments at the same day and time work best. However, depending on your needs, we can discuss what would work best for you or your child. Depending on your needs and progress, we may adjust the frequency to biweekly or another schedule that supports your goals.
Services & Approach
What issues do you help clients with?
I work with children, teens, and adults experiencing anxiety, ADHD, depression, self-esteem concerns, and other emotional or behavioral challenges.
What is your therapeutic approach?
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client's needs. Depending on your goals, I may draw from evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. My guiding theory of therapy is person-centered, meaning that I believe every person has the desire and ability to grow and just need help sometimes to find the answers when they’re feeling stuck.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes, I offer secure telehealth sessions for clients age 12 and older who prefer the convenience of meeting remotely or who are unable to attend in person.
Practical Information
How much do sessions cost?
Session fees vary depending on your insurer if you are using insurance. If you are paying out of pocket, then the current cost for a 45-minute counseling session or a parent consultation is $135. Because the initial session requires more paperwork and assessment, intakes are $160.
Do you accept insurance?
I am in-network with Aetna and United Healthcare/Optum through Headway. For other insurers, I am an out-of-network provider. If you have a different insurance plan and it offers out-of-network benefits, then you may be able to get reimbursed for sessions. If you plan on filing for reimbursement, I will provide you with monthly statements upon request. You may submit these statements to your insurance company in hopes of garnering reimbursement (which varies by carrier and policy).
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. I may or may not have times available, but I am happy to reschedule appointments if possible with at least 24 hours notice. Sessions canceled less than 24 hours in advance or missed appointments are subject to a fee.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is important, and information shared in therapy is generally confidential. There are limited exceptions required by law, such as concerns about imminent harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or court orders. These limits will be discussed during the informed consent process.
Child Sessions
What happens if I bring my child during the day and they miss school?
I will provide your child with a note so they are not penalized. Most schools are flexible and are understanding of the counseling process.
What do I tell my child about therapy?
It is important that you prepare your child for their first visit to the playroom. You can tell your child that they are going to play in a room with lots of toys and games with a friendly helper. It is normal for there to be some pushback; trying new things with a stranger can be scary! Offer them comfort and share that you wish for them to have their own space to play!
What do I do after my child’s session? Can I ask them how it was?
It is natural to be curious about your child’s therapy and what it entails, but please refrain from asking your child about their play time. Let your child be in charge if they decide to share something about their session. If you ever have a concern about a topic, please reach out to your therapist.
Sometimes your child may bring home something that they create in session. Children’s artwork is an extension of their inner world and you can respect their expression by asking open ended questions and by acknowledging their creation without giving it any labels such as good/ugly/pretty. One example is “You’re so proud of what you made! Would you like to tell me more about it?“
Results & Expectations
How will I know if therapy is working?
Progress looks different for everyone. Signs may include improved coping skills, reduced symptoms, healthier relationships, greater self-awareness, increased confidence, or movement toward personal goals. We'll regularly review your or your child’s progress together.
What if I don't feel like we're a good fit?
A strong therapeutic relationship is important. If you feel we're not the right fit, I welcome that conversation and can help connect you with another provider who may better meet your needs.
